| Solidcore Establishes
Legacy OS Migration Practice
EVP of Products Jay
Vaishnav to Lead Effort to Help Companies
Manage Costs and Minimize Risks of Major
Migration Projects
PALO ALTO, California
— July 28, 2005 — Solidcore
Systems, Inc., the leading developer of
IT control solutions, today announced the
establishment of its Legacy OS Migration
practice under the leadership of Executive
Vice President of Products, Jay Vaishnav.
The practice is focused on providing proactive
control of cost and risk at Fortune 500
and government agencies that have large
installed bases of now unsupported Windows
NT4 legacy systems as they migrate critical
business services to modern operating environments.
"As entrenched
but aging operating systems and related
support programs are phased out, maintaining
the availability of the services that key
legacy systems provide is becoming increasingly
risky and costly," said Mr. Vaishnav.
"By and large current best practices
are technical and do not take into account
fundamental business needs. Solidcore is
aware that businesses need to operate against
their own plans and not be forced by vendors
to take actions that can have very disruptive
consequences. To that extent, Solidcore
has developed best practices and unique
and powerful products that enable companies
to safely manage legacy system migrations
cost effectively on their own timetable."
Companies and government
agencies that maintain large IT infrastructures
often own a large number of legacy business
systems that provide critical services based
on older mainstream operating systems like
Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000. These organizations
must address how to best migrate their legacy
systems as support has already or will soon
come to an end. While commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) systems can be upgraded readily—or
in the case of systems that are no longer
critical, eliminated—some systems
cannot be readily upgraded due to a variety
of reasons, including the prohibitive cost
of custom application redevelopment or proprietary
hardware dependencies.
Solidcore's Legacy OS Migration
practice is dedicated to helping companies
take proactive control of major migration
projects with a particular focus on risk
management and cost containment. With Solidcore,
organizations can extend the life of business-critical
legacy systems running on end-of-life operating
systems, re-deploy legacy systems as software
appliances, and migrate legacy systems over
a longer period of time consistent with
business goals, budgets, and schedules.
